KARACHI: At least Five offices of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were ] demolished.
According to SSP Malir Rao Anwar, the offices were constructed on land acquired illegally.
An office of the party was also bulldozed in Ahsanabad.
Many offices of the party have also been demolished in the city including unit offices near Mosmiyat and Quaidabad.
MQM offices in Sukhan, Sachal, and in the jurisdiction of Airport Police Station were also demolished.
The move comes after the name of Mukka Chowk, MQM’s stronghold, was changedearlier.
A notification is expected which will see the name of the famous landmark being changed to Shaheed-e-Milat Liaquat Ali Khan Chowk after Pakistan’s first prime minister.
Earlier, posters of MQM Quaid were removed from Mukka Chowk and Jinnah Ground.
The landmark was established in 1991 when Farooq Sattar was the city’s mayor and renovated in 2009 during the mayorship of Mustafa Kamal.
The development comes in the wake of MQM leader Farooq Sattar announcing that the party was distancing itself from inflammatory statements made by the MQM chief and his assuming control of the party.
Sattar further said that decisions regarding the MQM would now be made from Pakistan.
